U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) held conversations by phone today with Brenda Mallory and Michael Regan, nominees for top environmental posts in the incoming Biden Administration who reached out to Senator Cramer to discuss their nominations. Mrs. Mallory is President-elect Joe Biden’s choice for Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), and Mr. Regan is his selection for Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The confirmation process for CEQ and EPA nominees runs through the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, where Senator Cramer holds a seat.
Following these phone calls, Senator Cramer issued statements on each of their nominations:
Brenda Mallory – CEQ
“The Council on Environmental Quality plays a pivotal role in our nation’s infrastructure and energy production. The Trump Administration enacted several positive, commonsense reforms to ensure projects can move forward without unnecessary delay. These measures should be preserved as we seek to encourage, not hamper, economic growth.” said Senator Cramer. “I appreciate Mrs. Mallory taking the time and look forward to discussing her record and her plans for the Council during her hearing.”
Michael Regan – EPA
“Whether through the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, or any environmental law passed by Congress, the best environmental policy takes a cooperative federalist approach, where the federal government works with states instead of imposing heavy-handed enforcement. Administrator Wheeler came to North Dakota and excelled in enacting workable, innovative solutions he crafted in consultation with those most likely to be impacted by the regulations,” said Senator Cramer. “Mr. Regan said in his announcement speech he wants to support states, not hinder them, and I hope to hear more about how he intends to accomplish that during his confirmation hearing.”
