In the summer of 2018, the City of Moorhead began construction on the 20th/21st Street Grade Separation Project (Project). As part of the Project, Moorhead Public Service’s (MPS’) Red River water transmission line is being relocated. MPS expects the relocation process to take approximately two weeks, depending upon weather.
During this relocation, MPS will be transitioning its source water from Red River water to Buffalo Aquifer (Aquifer) water. MPS is fortunate to have the Aquifer to utilize during this time period. It is common for customers to notice the switch to Aquifer water because of the different mineral composition in the respective water supplies. MPS staff tests the water on a regular basis and, although there may be a slightly different taste in the water, the water is safe to drink and use.
