Social Security Administration Warns Of Scam

The Social Security Administration has begun warning citizens about a scam that has surfaced.

Patty Hoffman, Public Affairs Specialist, says the scammers are misusing the Social Security Administration’s toll-free customer service number in an attempt to gain personal information.

Hoffman says the scammers identify themselves as a Social Security employee, and require them to give more personal identifying information.

Social Security does call for information over the phone, but Hoffman says they normally send a letter prior to the phone call.
