ND State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler Reaction to Governor's Budget Address

North Dakota State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler

“The governor’s proposed budget has several positive initiatives for North Dakota’s schools. It includes a 2 percent annual increase in per-student aid payments, which is the most important source of state support for our schools. This is good news. The per-student payment has remained the same for the last three years, while costs have been rising.”

“I welcome the governor’s attempt to provide state aid more quickly to schools that have increasing enrollments. Our present system disadvantages schools that are growing. It makes it more difficult for them to educate their students and meet their obligations.”

“The Department of Public Instruction looks forward to working with our legislators and the governor during this upcoming session.”
