Fire Damages Commercial Building

Fargo firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a commercial building at 3:20 p.m. this evening at 2761 Leahy Avenue South. The building contained the maintenance garage and offices for Valley Bus. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the south half of the building where the company performs maintenance on the buses.

Crews forced entry into the building and began attacking the fire. They found the fire in the wall and attic space. It was a relatively small fire but took time to access and extinguish because all of the walls, the ceiling, and the roof were metal and could not be easily removed. Crews performed most of the cutting work from ladders, which slowed the fire attack on the cold evening.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It is estimated that the fire caused about $40,000 in damage. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
