Fatal Crash Reported On I-29

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a fatality crash occurred Monday afternoon in southeastern North Dakota.

According to a news release, the fatal crash occurred on I-29 at the northbound underpass of exit 48 (Hwy. 46 exit) at approximately 1:55 p.m.

The fatal crash involved three vehicles, a 2011 Ford F250, 2005 Dodge Caravan and a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck towing a 2007 Great Dane reefer trailer. The Ford and Dodge were northbound in the right lane and were passed by a large vehicle, creating a white-out condition. The Ford and Dodge slowed because of the white-out condition. The Freightliner approached the Dodge and Ford from the rear and struck the Dodge, pushing the Dodge into the Ford. The Dodge came to rest in the east ditch. The Ford and Freightliner came to rest in the median.

The driver and lone occupant of the Dodge was killed in the crash. He was pronounced dead on scene, and was not wearing a seat belt.

The occupants of the Ford and Freightliner were seat belted and were uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.

The names of all parties will be released on Tuesday afternoon.
