Sunday Morning Shopping Ban Repeal Clears Hurdle

A bill to repeal the Sunday morning shopping ban, sponsored by Fargo Republican Representative Shannon Roers Jones, has cleared its first hurdle.

The North Dakota House passed House Bill 1097 by a 56-35 vote Thursday afternoon in Bismarck. The bill will now make its way through the Senate.

In 2017, a similar repeal effort fell short in the Senate, after narrowly passing in the House.

Those in favor of repealing the ban say it should be up to the businesses on when they open their doors.
