State Representative Paul Marquart was named chair of the Taxes Committee of the Minnesota House of Representatives when the Minnesota Legislative session began Jan. 8.

“I’m very honored to have the opportunity to work on creating a tax code that promotes accountability, transparency and delivers results for every area of the state. Every taxpayer should know where their tax dollars are going and what value they are getting for those tax dollars,” Marquart said.

Marquart said the House Taxes Committee will focus on conforming Minnesota’s tax laws to the new federal tax reform; lowering property taxes for senior citizens, working families, farmers and small businesses; and increasing funding for local governments.

“I take this new role very seriously and I invite Minnesotans to share with me their ideas and questions about how tax policy impacts their livelihoods and how we can make their lives better,” Marquart added.
