Three people, including the suspect, are dead, and one sheriff’s deputy is injured, following a shooting Thursday night in Nevis, which is 96 miles northeast of Fargo.

A news release from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the 100 block of Paul Bunyan Trail.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased female outside of the home. The suspect had fled the scene, in the victim’s vehicle, before officers arrived. A second victim, who had been shot, was located inside the vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle was located north of Nevis, and a pursuit began, lasting approximately 20 minutes. During the pursuit, the suspect fired at the pursuing vehicles, striking a deputy. After putting the vehicle in the ditch, officers approached the vehicle and shots were exchanged. The suspect was found dead.

All three dead were taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and identification. The injured was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Park Rapids, and then to Essentia Health in Fargo, where he was treated and released for a non-life threatening shooting injury.
