Cause of Feb. 28, 2019, West Fargo Fire Department determined

 

The cause of the Feb. 28, fire at 1031 First St. in West Fargo has been ruled accidental with the cause being related to smoking materials.

At 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, the West Fargo Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in an apartment at 1031 First St. in West Fargo.  West Fargo Police Department units arrived on scene first and were notified by bystanders that they had heard a person yelling inside the apartment.  Officers opened the door, and a few feet from the door found a fire victim. They then pulled the victim outside.

The first engine on scene found fire in a back bedroom and extinguished the fire. There was moderate smoke damage throughout the entire apartment.

An updated condition of the 40-year-old male victim has not been released, but he was been flown to Hennepin County, Minnesota, shortly after the incident for fire-related injuries.
