Weekend Winter Storm Update

 

Key Points:

  • Heavy snowfall to impact the region this weekend
  • Confidence is highest in snowfall amounts across the southern Red River
    Valley and into west central Minnesota (8-12 inches with potential for 12+)
  • Greatest uncertainty in snowfall amounts is across the central Red River Valley and into northwestern Minnesota
  • The heavy, wet snow will lead to near zero visibility at times along with the potential for significant drifting snow

National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6am CT Saturday until 1p CT Sunday 

Counties included in this warning are:

Clay-Wilkin-West Otter Tail-Grant-Griggs-Steele-Traill-Barnes-
Cass-Ransom-Sargent-Richland-including the cities of Moorhead, Breckenridge, Fergus Falls,
Elbow Lake, Hoffman, Ashby, Herman, Barrett, Cooperstown, Finley,
Hope, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Portland, Valley City, Fargo,
Lisbon, Enderlin, Gwinner, Milnor, Forman, Rutland, and Wahpeton

WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM CST SATURDAY TO 1 PM CDT SUNDAY... 

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches 
expected. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph with blowing and drifting snow possible. 

* WHERE...Portions of west central Minnesota and southeast North Dakota. 

* WHEN...From 6 AM CST Saturday to 1 PM CDT Sunday.
