Heavy Snow Causes Roof Collapses

Saturday’s heavy snow caused several roof collapses across the Red River Valley.

In Moorhead, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, who had canceled services due to the weather, saw its roof collapse shortly after noon on Sunday.

Earlier Sunday, authorities were called to Trail King Industries in West Fargo for a partial roof collapse. According to the West Fargo Fire Department, the department was originally called for a flow alarm just before 7 a.m., and, when crews arrived, windows were blown out and fire could be seen coming from the roof. The roof sheared a gas line, igniting the fire.

Then, fire crews were called to Matt’s Automotive Service Center, Moorhead, where the roof had collapsed on part of the shop, knocking off a gas line. The call to the automotive service center came in at 10:37 a.m.

A fourth roof collapse in the F-M metro came shortly before 3:30 p.m. at RJ Corman Railroad Services in West Fargo. A part of the roof collapsed.

A fifth collapse occurred around 8 p.m. at Northern Plains Steel Company in Fargo. The roof caved in on the building.

Also, in Fertile, Minn., part of a roof on a new barn at the Polk County Fairgrounds collapsed.
