Great Plains Food Bank Receives Donation

The Great Plains Food Bank has received a large donation. Smithfield Foods, the world’s largest pork processor and hog producer, along with Hornbachers, is donating 40 thousand pounds of pork products to the food bank. According to the food bank, the donation will supply 160,000 servings to those in need. The gift is part of the ‘Helping Hungry Homes’ tour put on by Smithfield Foods. Congressman Kevin Cramer, along with staff members from both Senator John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp’s office were on hand to make the announcement Tuesday in Fargo. According to their website, the Great Plains Food Bank assists one in nine individuals who seek emergency food assistance.
