State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler says North Dakota students are leading the nation in getting good scores on Advanced Placement exams.
Baesler says from 2016 to 2018 -- North Dakota students saw a 55 percent increase in the success rate on their A-P exams.
High school students take Advanced Placement exams to earn college credit. Baesler says in 2018 alone, students saved themselves more than $1.76 million in college tuition costs by earning A-P credits.
Baesler says the Legislature has made it possible for more students to take A-P exams. And she says the National Math and Science Initiative also deserves credit for the increase.
The National Math and Science Initiative promotes A-P exams and teacher training. Baesler says the initiative has made A-P exams more widely available in North Dakota.
The National Math and Science Initiative is known as NMSI for short. is supported by the X-T-O energy company.
