Cass County Road 17 and 76th Avenue South Construction Begins May 13

Cass County along with the City of Horace are improving the County Road 17 and 76th Avenue South/County Road 6 corridor.

On Monday, May 13, at 9 a.m. crews will close the intersection of County Road 17 and 76th Avenue South to all traffic. Crews will begin building a new roundabout starting with installation of underground utilities through the intersection. The roundabout is slated to be open to traffic by mid-August.

When traffic control is in place, motorist can expect the following:

  • County Road 17/76th Avenue South intersection will be fully closed to traffic
  • Posted detour route from County Road 17 is:
    • Northbound Traffic: West on Wall Ave W > north on 81st St S > east on 64th Ave S
    • Southbound Traffic: West on 64th Ave S > south on 81st St S > east on Wall Ave W
  • Residential access will be maintained

Throughout the week the contractor has been improving the detour route prior to detouring traffic. The improvements include preparing and shaping the existing surface, applying additional aggregate surfacing, stabilizing the aggregate surfacing and applying a dust suppressant.  East of the intersection on 76th Ave S will also receive prep work for residential access later this week. The County will be monitoring the roadway conditions and the contractor will maintain as necessary.

Temporary stop signs will be added on crossing routes to let detour traffic run without stopping. Local access will be maintained for residents east and west of the 76th Ave S intersection. Contractors will work directly with individual homeowners on project-related access changes.
