Areas Of UND Campus Evacuated

 

A natural gas leak has caused portions of the University of North Dakota campus, in Grand Forks, to be evacuated.

According to University officials, the leak was detected at approximately 9 a.m. at a construction site near the intersection of University Avenue and Princeton Street. Crews from Xcel Energy are attempting to stop the leak and begin repairs.

As a precaution, UND officials have evacuated the following buildings: Wilkerson Commons Dining Complex, the American Indian Center, a nearby sorority house, as well as Squires, Bek, Hancock, Walsh, Johnstone, Fulton and Smith Halls.

UND employees and the general public are advised to stay clear of the area and not move vehicles parked in the area.

As of 11:30 a.m., there were no reported injuries.

UND Police, Grand Forks Fire and Altru Ambulance are responding.
