May 2019 Salute to Law Enfrocement: Trooper William Brown

Via North Dakota Highway Patrol

"I am happy to nominate Trooper William Brown, Wahpeton, for the May 2019 Salute to LE Award.  Trooper Brown has been a trooper with the NDHP since 2011, being stationed in Wahpeton his entire career.  Trooper Brown is committed to the NDHP Vision of “public safety through quality service.”  Bill accomplishes public safety on many fronts.  One of the most impactful is through his educational efforts.  Bill is an Alive @ 25 instructor, which is a driver’s awareness course for young drivers 15-24 years of age.  The course teaches defensive driving, but more importantly proper decision making and responsibility taking.  In addition, Bill teaches at local driver’s education classes and in the elementary schools.  Through these education efforts, he impacts hundreds of our youth each year.  The second area is enforcement.  Trooper Brown makes a difference everyday through the enforcement of crash causation violations, namely DUI, right of way, speeding and occupant protection violations.  These violations are the leading causes of traffic related serious injuries and fatalities in North Dakota each year.  Although enforcement is not always popular, through Bill’s education and enforcement actions, the rate of serious injury and fatal crashes in his work area has been drastically reduced since 2011.  Outside of our agency, Trooper Brown is a current member of the ND Army National Guard.  He has the unique dual role to protect and serve North Dakota, with the NDHP and the NDARNG."
