Suspicious Death Investigation Underway in Fosston

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death early Sunday morning in the City of Fosston.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:44 a.m., officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a reported assault on 8th Street Northwest at the intersection of North Mark Avenue.

A short time later, a second 9-1-1 call came in, from a different residence. That caller stated someone was trying to break into their house, located at the intersection.

When officers arrived, one male was standing near the intersection, with another male lying on the curbside, who was found to be not breathing. Deputies began CPR and Essentia Health EMS were dispatched and responded to the scene.

The individual, found laying on the curbside, was later pronounced deceased. The other male, 29-year-old Nicholas Hauge, of Fergus Falls, was arrested and transported to the North West Regional Correctional Center. The deceased male, who has not been identified, pending family notification, was transported to the Grand Forks Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has assisted with scene processing, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office says there is no information that there is a continued threat to the public, along with no information regarding a firearm being used in the incident.

The investigation continues, according to officials with the sheriff’s office.
