Arvilla Man Arrested on Terrorizing, Weapon Charges

On Wednesday, at approximately 8:43 p.m., Grand Forks County Deputies were dispatched to a weapons violation in progress on County Road 4 near Arvilla.

The reporting party called 911 and stated a vehicle pulled up along their vehicle as they were westbound on US Highway 2 and pointed a pistol at them. The reporting party’s vehicle was occupied with three individuals and as they attempted to get away from the suspect they were tailgated and followed for numerous miles and turns.

The suspect was later identified as 31 year old Roman Schmidt of Arvilla. Schmidt eventually stopped on a private road and hid in the woods. Deputies were able to make contact with Roman and after negotiations he agreed to surrender.

A loaded pistol was located on Schmidt’s person. Schmidt was placed under arrest on suspicion of terrorizing and carrying a concealed weapon. He was confined at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. The incident remains under investigation.
