Man Identified in Fatal Traill County Rollover

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a rollover accident Friday evening in rural Traill County.

The accident happened at 5:13 p.m. Friday three-and-a-half miles southwest of Portland.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, A John Deere 3020, driven by 77-year-old Alton Anderson, was traveling northbound in the east ditch pulling a sickle mower cutting grass for hay.  Anderson turned left to travel up the in-slope, toward the roadway, to go around a culvert opening in the bottom of the ditch.  The front right tire of the tractor encountered a sink hole and the front right tire dropped into the hole.

The tractor rolled onto its top as a result, crushing Anderson.  The tractor was not equipped with a roll bar or cab.

Anderson died at the scene because of his injuries.
