One Dead, One Injured in Crash Near Hillsboro

One person is dead and another injured following a Wednesday evening crash on I-29, three miles north of Hillsboro.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday, a 2017 Toyota Rav4 was southbound on I-29 near mile marker 107 in the right lane.

Barbara Kramer, the driver of the Rav4, had changed lanes to pass a semi, also southbound in the right lane.

Norman Dronen, driving a 2005 Ford Escape, was stopped in the left lane near mile marker 107 on I-29 for unknown reasons.

As Kramer passed the semi, she struck Dronen’s vehicle in the rear, pushing Dronen’s vehicle into the median.

The Rav4 went across both lanes and into the west ditch.

Dronen suffered fatal injuries, while Kramer was taken by ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, where, Sergeant Matthew Johnson tells WZFG News, she is being treated for her injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
