Fargo Man's Murder Convictions Upheld

A Fargo man’s bid to have the North Dakota Supreme Court overturn his two murder convictions has failed. The North Dakota Supreme Court affirmed the court’s decision in a case from 2015, where a jury found Ashley Hunter guilty of two murders. According to media reports, Hunter murdered two men—one by repeatedly stabbing him, and the other by hammer blows to the head. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Hunter’s appeal to the Supreme Court says he “argues the district court erred in denying his motion to suppress because the State failed to meet its burden to establish he was given a Miranda warning and he did not knowingly and voluntarily waive his constitutional rights.” The court says they “have considered Hunter's remaining issues and arguments and conclude that they are either unnecessary to address or are without merit.” Hunter was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the case of the murders, and to ten years in prison for arson.
