Bear Wanders into Grand Forks

An interesting sight in Grand Forks this morning—a bear. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the Police Department received a report of a bear near the area of Industrial Park.  Efforts were made to prevent the animal from entering town, but the animal came into town and now has treed itself in the 2400 block of University Ave. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department was notified of the situation and is currently assisting the Police Department.  The bear is resting in the tree and is currently not a threat to the public so it will be left in the tree as the Police Department is monitoring the animal.  The Police Department has explored several options and will try to avoid dispatching the bear unless absolutely necessary. University Avenue from North 25th and North 23rd Street including the sidewalk area has been closed down due to the amount of vehicle and foot traffic trying to view the animal.
