Florida Woman Booked on Negligent Homicide, Aggravated Reckless Driving Charges

A Florida woman is being charged with negligent homicide and aggravated reckless driving following a crash last week in which an unborn child was killed. Claudia Grace, age 75 of Florida, was booked into the Traill County Jail Wednesday on the charges, stemming from a July 8 crash on I-29 near Hillsboro. Grace crossed the center line, attempting to merge into the right lane, and failed to see, and subsequently hit, a black 2017 Chevy Silverado carrying 24-year-old Tyler Bedney and 22-year-old Ashley Fontaine, both of Grand Forks. Grace lost control of her vehicle and entered the median, while Bedney’s pickup went into the ditch and rolled. According to media reports, both Bedney and Fontaine were seriously injured and transported to Altru by helicopter. Fontaine was six months pregnant, and the crash killed the child. Grace had an initial appearance Wednesday morning in Traill County Court. No further court dates have been scheduled.
