Local Law Enforcement Warns of Fraudulent Letter

A fraudulent letter has surfaced in a rural Minnesota county.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, a report has been received of a business in the county receiving a letter from DotService.com.

According to DotService.com's website, the company is headquartered in Louisiana.

The letter states that the business was past due on their Biennial Update, and to contact them right away to avoid civil penalties and possible deactivation of their US DOT number. In addition, the company, DotService.com, wanted a credit card number over the phone, and no other payment form was allowed.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the letter is a 'well-known scam', and the office urges citizens that, if the call seems suspicious, to never give out any personal or financial information, and request everything is sent in writing.
