FARGO, N.D. – The man accused of killing Azeem Holmes appeared in Cass County District Court this morning.
Jayvon Allen was taken into custody in the Twin Cities last month after authorities say they were looking for him in connection to the homicide of Holmes. He was arrested June 24 by the U.S. Marshals Service North Star Fugitive Task Force at a residence in Minneapolis. Fargo Police announced the arrest the following day at a news conference, where Captain Matt Christensen said Allen is accused of firing a weapon into a crowd outside a bar, killing Holmes and injuring two additional individuals.
In court this morning, Allen was arraigned by Judge Wade Webb.
Court documents state police responded to a shooting in the early morning hours of August 3, 2025, outside the entrance of District 64. When they arrived, they discovered three individuals with apparent gunshot wounds – one of which was Holmes, who was shot in the chest. He was taken to Sanford Hospital, where he later was pronounced deceased.
The incident report said there is ‘probable cause to believe that Jayvon Allen acted with extreme indifference to the value of human life’ by shooting a firearm in the direction of Holmes.
He is charged with Class AA Felony murder, Class B Felony Reckless Endangerment, Class B Felony Aggravated Assault and Class C Felony Aggravated Assault.
Allen will return to court on August 6 for a preliminary hearing. He remains in the Cass County Jail on a one million dollar cash bond with the condition that he comply with an order prohibiting contact with the victim.
