DETROIT LAKES, MINN. — Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander said Tuesday morning that everyone involved in the response to Monday night’s severe weather did what they were trained to do.
“Everybody kicked in and did what they had to do,” he said. “We didn’t know what to expect.”
Downed trees, power lines and other debris was reported in the areas north of Detroit Lakes and Detroit Township, including the areas between US Highway 59 and County Highway 21.
“At approximately 8:14 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call saying that a tornado had touched down in the Oakland Beach area of Floyd Lake, causing extensive damage,” Glander said.
Deputies and other emergency responders went to the area and confirmed extensive damage to homes, buildings and trees, and two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Glander said only residents and those associated with property owners will be allowed to entry to the affected areas.
