FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Chicago man must serve at least 45 years in prison for his role in a deadly shooting at a south Fargo apartment complex in December 2024.
Judge Cherie L. Clark of Cass County District Court sentenced Patrick Martin to 55 years Monday, with a requirement that he serve a minimum of 45 years before becoming eligible for release. Martin will also serve five years of supervised probation following his release. He received credit for 504 days already served.
Martin pleaded guilty Dec. 29, 2025, to one count of murder in the course of a felony and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm. A second murder charge was dismissed on motion of the state.
As part of his sentence, Martin is required to testify truthfully in all future proceedings against any co-defendant connected to the death of Rahsaan Wilson. Court documents state that if Martin is found to have not testified truthfully, or refuses to do so, the case may be brought back before the court, and he could be resentenced.
Background
The shooting happened Dec. 4, 2024, at the Summers at Osgood Apartments in the 4500 block of 47th Street South in Fargo.
According to court documents, Martin, along with Steven Burrell and a third man, went to Wilson’s apartment with the intent of robbing him. Martin told investigators that Burrell had previously been robbed by Wilson.
Martin said the group contacted Wilson by phone and met him outside the apartment complex, then followed him inside the building. A fight broke out between Wilson and Burrell. Investigators believe both Burrell and Martin fired a shot at Wilson. Wilson died from his injuries the following day, Dec. 5, 2024.
Martin was arrested Jan. 14, 2025. He initially pleaded not guilty to all three charges July 17, 2025, before changing his plea in December.
