Fargo Police provide update on vehicle break-in investigations

(FARGO) – The Fargo Police Department is releasing more information regarding the car break-in spree that targeted nearly 100 vehicles Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Fargo Police Captain Bill Ahlfeldt, who leads the department’s Criminal Investigations Division, said Tuesday that the first reports of the break-ins came into the department at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“Items of value were stolen from the victim vehicles,” Ahlfeldt said. “bring up. In some cases, the victim vehicles were entered through smash and grab style force, and in others, the victim vehicles were entered through unlocked vehicle doors.”

The department said the crime spree appeared to have occurred between 10:30 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, and impacted vehicles in both underground parking garages and outdoor parking lots.

Fargo Police’s Criminal Investigation Division is currently working to identify the responsible party.

“I would encourage anyone who has any information about these incidents, whether they think it is relevant or not, to contact the Fargo Police Department Tip Line,” Ahlfeldt said. The tip line can be reached at 701-241-5777.

Ahlfeldt said that, in two of the incidents on Fargo’s north side, two individuals were working together to commit the crime – with all other incidents still under investigation.

He said the crime spree is ‘probably the largest I’ve seen since I’ve been here of unlawful vehicle entries.’

More people could be linked to the crime, Ahlfeldt said.
