Lawmaker Trying To Withdraw Adoption Bill

(Bismarck, ND)  --  A North Dakota lawmaker is trying to withdraw a bill aimed at helping increase adoption rates.  The bill would have offered financial assistance to individuals for medical costs for the birth of a baby who is given up for adoption.  The assistance would only be available if the child would go to a heterosexual couple.  Representative Jeff Hoverson asked the House Human Services committee to kill the bill after it met opposition for being discriminatory.  The committee voted unanimously not to move the bill forward.
