High Speed Chase, Crash in Moorhead

(Moorhead, MN) -- A high speed chase through the streets of Moorhead last night ends in a crash with another car. This began when officers approached a motorist in a car in a parking lot off 32nd Ave South, who was said to be driving recklessly. She sped off and police followed for a short time, but broke off the chase. Moorhead Police received information from the public of a vehicle driving recklessly entering Moorhead on I-94 from Fargo.  Officers located the vehicle in a parking lot in the 1000 block of 32nd Avenue South.  As an officer approached the vehicle, the driver drove out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed.  A Clay County Deputy and Moorhead Officer pursued the vehicle northbound on 9th Street South for about two blocks until the chase was called off before 30th Avenue due to the dangerous driving behavior and increased vehicle traffic. 

Officers were able to monitor the vehicle as it traveled at a high rate of speed northbound on 8th Street from 30th Avenue South.  The vehicle entered the intersection of Main Avenue against a red light and crashed into another vehicle.  An Officer and Deputy were within sight of the crash and responded to the scene with lights and sirens.  The female driver was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.  The other driver was assessed at the scene for injuries and was not taken to the hospital.  No other drivers or pedestrians were injured during this incident.

The driver, 19-year-old Keiarria Kukowski  is in custody and is expected to be charged with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving with a valid license.
