Rollover Crash Near Mapleton Injures One

(Mapleton, ND) -- A serious rollover crash injured one Monday afternoon in Cass County.

State troopers say 20-year-old Noah James Zander was driving along I-94 east by Mapleton when he fell asleep behind the wheel of his 2007 Dodge Caliber. He then began to veer off the road, entering a ditch. Zander attempted to steer out but overcorrected which caused his vehicle to overturn several times.

"You never know when you're going to be in a crash, when someone's going to hit you, when in this case you may fall asleep while driving," said NDHP Sergeant Jed Dahnke, "That's why you should always buckle up before you drive."

Dahnke says that seatbelt saved Zander's life. The Bismarck native is said to have serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to Sanford Health in Fargo.

Zander is expected to get a traffic citation, and alcohol or drugs are not factors in the crash.

The incident does remain under investigation.
