MN Gas Tax Could Rise

(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota drivers could be paying a nickel more at the pump, if a new tax hike goes through. One state house transportation committee in St. Paul okay'd a plan to gradually raise Minnesota's gas tax by 5-cents per gallon over the next four years, with hikes tied to inflation after that. The money would go to repairing bridges and roads. If signed, the plan would also hike vehicle sales taxes, license plate tab fees, and stick a luxury tax surchage on expensive cars. Governor Walz still has to sign off on the plan.
