Car Drives Into Pole, Takes Out Power in Fargo Tuesday Night

(Fargo, ND) -- A woman is in custody after driving into multiple power poles in Fargo Tuesday evening.

Fargo Police say the incident happened around 7:15 p.m near the intersection of 15th Avenue South and University Drive. That's when the driver of an SUV veered into the tree lawn near the Animal Health Clinic, then smashed into a pair of utility poles, causing them to crash into the middle of the street. Power lines also ran through the trees in the surrounding areas.

Soon after, the female driver was given a sobriety test, which she failed, and was taken into custody on presumed DUI charges.

Fargo Fire tells WDAY Radio that power was out over at least a two-block radius in the area, which includes the Hornbachers in the nearby shopping plaza.

Xcel Energy is on scene assessing the damages, which could take hours to clean up and possibly just as long to get the lights back on.
