City Of Fargo Advances Hate Crime Ordinance

(Fargo, ND)  --  The city of Fargo is advancing a new policy to fight hate crimes.  The city commission agreed to receive and file a hate crime ordinance by a three to two vote last night. It is not a final vote and the proposed ordinance must go through another reading, which should occur at city commission in two weeks. Mayor Tim Mahoney, and Commissioners Arlette Preston and John Strand voted in favor of advancing the ordinance. Both Commissioners Tony Gehrig and Dave Piepkorn cast votes in the negative. Those violating the ordinance, if it makes it to final passage would face an up-to 15-hundred-dollar fine and/or up to 30 days in jail.
