Fargo Observes Juneteenth

(Fargo, ND) -- Residents in Fargo officially celebrated the newly-created holiday of Juneteenth Saturday at Lindenwood Park. The day-long event featured speakers, music, dancing and a number of other activities. Organizers say they offered festival-goers a wide variety of historical and cultural booths and vendors with both food and merchandise. The new holiday celebrates the date in 1865 when African American slaves in Texas formally received word they were freed.
