Fargo Police and Silver Lining Creamery Announce Downtown Bike Safety Campaign

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department has partnered with Silver Lining Creamery to promote bike safety in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone.

Bicyclists and skateboarders found to be walking their bicycle, or carrying their skateboard, on the sidewalk in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone, designated on Broadway from NP Avenue to 6th Avenue North, can be rewarded with a coupon for a free scoop of ice cream at Silver Lining Creamery, 123 Broadway North from the downtown resource officers or beat officers.

This campaign was inspired by the “I Got Caught” safety helmet campaign which rewards youth for wearing their safety helmet with a coupon for a free ice cream cone.

The Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone is marked with street signs and sidewalk markings. Bicyclists are required to walk their bicycles in the Downtown Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Zone, but may ride on the street while obeying all rules of the road. Bicyclists who do not feel comfortable riding in the roadway are encouraged to take alternate routes such as Roberts Street North and 4th Street North.
