Outbreak of Fighting Leads to Short Lockdown at Moorhead High Thursday

(Moorhead, MN) -- Nobody was injured after a reported massive brawl at Moorhead High School Thursday morning.

Moorhead Police Captain Deric Swenson confirms to WDAY Radio that the fight started around 10 a.m. Thursday with a pair of students fighting. After the initial fight was brought under control by the school resource officer, more students then began brawling in the common area. That required the officer to call for backup, and even a lockdown to be put in place. Calls eventually went out to the Clay County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol, but once they arrived the situation was under control thanks to responding fellow officers with Moorhead PD.

Captain Swenson added that charges are expected, but they will be against juveniles so names will not be released. The lockdown was lifted just a short time after it was put in place. A total of 8 students appeared to be involved, with other students trying to de-escalate or separate those actively fighting.

Their were no weapons involved, and no future threat is expected at the school.
