(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department is working on a plan aimed at better organizing ride sharing service providers and taxis downtown when bars close.  Chief Dave Zibolski talked about it Wednesday during the department's monthly "Downtown Download" at City Hall.

"What's happening is we've got this large amount of bars in a small location filled with people who have enjoyed libations for many hours and at 2:00 that stops.  They're all being pushed into these streets and intersections.  They can't find their Uber pickups.  They might be parked on the street and they can't get out and they're congregating there and that is where we are seeing fights, disturbances and all these things going on," said Zibolski.

The department is considering a plan that would have ride share drivers line up downtown at two different locations when bars close.  One would be the 500 block of 4th Avenue North and the other the 600 block of N.P. Avenue North.  The department calls the two spots "potential trial locations".   If approved late night parking at those locations would not be allowed in order to leave space for ride share drivers to gather.  The 4th Avenue North location is also in the area where a police substation is planned to open in the Spring.
