New free electric vehicle charging station unveiled at Fargo City Hall

(Fargo, ND) -- Drivers of electric vehicles can now use a free charging station when visiting Fargo City Hall.

"The commitment to forward thinking of renewable energy and environmental stewardship is fantastic an will push the city to tackle future projects like this which improve the community sustainability efforts," said Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney.

Mahoney was among the community leaders who gathered at City Hall Thursday for the ribbon cutting for the new charging station.  The station was installed as part of a partnership with Excel Energy.  Mahoney says the $90,000 cost of the charging station was covered entirely with grant funding.  The majority of the funding comes from a settlement paid by Volkswagen because of emissions violations.  The charging station in one hour can provide a range of 250 miles.
