Threat directed against Sheyenne High School deemed "not credible"

(West Fargo, ND) -- UPDATE -- Communication Specialist Addie Stewart with the City of West Fargo provided the following written statement on behalf of West Fargo Public Schools to WDAY Radio News early Friday evening:

“Last evening, a student alerted school staff to a social media post regarding the threat of school violence at Sheyenne High School. The student responsible for the post was quickly identified and parents were informed. West Fargo Public Schools is currently working with the West Fargo Police Department to assess this threat and determine next steps with the student, who is not onsite today. At this time, the threat has been deemed not credible and there is no danger to the students, staff, or Sheyenne campus.”

INITIAL REPORT: 

A representative for the West Fargo Police Department has confirmed they were notified of a threat made Thursday night directed toward Sheyenne High School in West Fargo. Melissa Richard said the threat was deemed "not credible" and said the department is not investigating the incident.

"The matter is being handled by West Fargo Public Schools", said Richard. 

The threat follows posts to social media earlier this week threatening a shooting at Liberty Middle School, which later were also deemed "not credible". 

A representative from West Fargo Public Schools had not responded to a phone call and email from WDAY Radio Newes seeking additional information and comment at the time this report was published.
