Two women charged in murder on Red Lake Indian Reservation

(Red Lake Indian Reservation, MN) --  Two women have been arrested and charged in conection with a murder on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota.  The charges against the pair announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Charles Kovats are one count of second-degree murder, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

The alleged crime occurred August 12th, 2019. 

Court documents indicate 20-year-old Alexia Gah Gi Gay Mary Cutbank and 20-year-old Mia Faye Sumner, while aided and abetted by others, murdered victim “D.A.J.” Additionally, Cutbank and Sumner shot and injured victim “T.B.S.”

Cutbank and Sumner made their initial court appearances Friday December, 10th before Magistrate Judge Katherine M. Menendez. The pair was ordered detained pending a formal detention hearing scheduled for 10:00 am on December 15th, 2021.
