(Fargo, ND) -- A paraeducator is recovering after being struck by a car near Fargo's Kennedy Elementary School.

Officials say the incident happened Wednesday afternoon when the para was ensuring that students safely crossed 44th Avenue at a crosswalk. They say the para directed a car to stop, when the vehicle made contact with the staff member and nudge forward multiple times.

Police and an ambulance were called but the staff member declined treatment, saying she'd see her doctor for her pain and possibly contact a lawyer. The driver was cited for distracted driving and a report was filed for simple assault, though no arrests were made.
