Honor Flight provides free flights to area veterans to view war memorials in Washington, D.C.

(Fargo, ND) -- Some veterans from the Fargo Moorhead metro who served in World War II, the Korean War, and Viet Nam will soon be taking an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

"It's really humbling for them. It's a really emotional experience because they're closing a chapter that has left wounds for many years. They'll tell you I am not the hero, I made it back home alive," said Jane Matejcek, President of Veterans Honor Flight of North Dakota and Minnesota.

She says Honor Flights happen each year locally and around the country. The organization gives veterans free flights to the nation's capitol to see war memorials. This year's Honor Flight from Fargo takes off Saturday April 30th and returns Monday May 2nd. A flight from Bismarck will be provided for the first time.
