(Gwinner, ND) -- The North Dakota Auditor's Office says public funds were misused at the Gwinner Rural Fire Protection District.

A report released Thursday showed improper expenditures of more than 28-thousand dollars from 2015 to 2020. The auditor's office says the money was used to purchase alcohol, groceries, and golf outings for its staff and volunteers.

State law doesn't allow public funds to be used for those types of purchases.
