(Fargo, ND) -- As the Monday evening deadline approaches, another candidate for the Fargo School Board's upcoming five open spots has surfaced.
Parent Allie Ollenburger has officially thrown her hat into the race, which as of Monday morning only featured seven candidates running for the five openings.
"I am ready to step up and bring my leadership background to the Fargo School Board, where I can advocate for our teachers, be responsible with taxpayer investments, instill creativity and problem solving in the restoration of quality education in Fargo Public Schools,” said Ollenburger in a statement released to WDAY Radio.
The mother of two, who is also a military veteran and lifelong Fargo resident, was near the head of the pack of the recall effort for several school board members that took place in the ladder portion of 2021. Ollenburger has said the reason for the push to replace certain board members was due to several factors, including lack of communication with parents.
Ollenburger says her focus in attempting to win a seat on the board is centered around three key areas, including support for educators, accountability, and a strong strategic vision for Fargo Public Schools.
The North Fargo resident currently faces opposition from Deven Styczynski, Kristin Sharbono, Alexis Scott, Nyamal Dei and Katie Christensen. Incumbent, David Paulson, has announced intentions to run for his seat again. President Rebecca Knutson has announced her bid for re-election, along with Board VP Robin Nelson, while Jennifer Benson has announced she will instead seek a bid for Fargo's City Commission.
The deadline to file for one of the open spots is Monday, April 11th at 4 p.m.
