(Moorhead, MN) -- Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visited Moorhead Tuesday to promote his plan to pay citizens in the state "Walz Checks". The money would come from "surplus" funds currently in state coffers. Walz says the latest numbers from March show the state surplus increased by $666 million.

"All Minnesotans 18 and above regardless of income status would receive $500 and married couples would receive $1,000," said the Governor while speaking to the press at the library on the campus of MSUM.  The payments are still subject to the ongoing negotiations of state lawmakers in St. Paul.

After appearing on campus at MSUM, Walz then traveled to the Moorhead Law Enforcement Center to meet with local police and fire representatives to hear how they might use funding if additional surplus funds are distributed to their agencies.
