(West Fargo, ND) -- West Fargo is naming its new school Meadowlark Elementary.

The school board met Monday night and approved the new name from a selection of three finalists.

Community members originally submitted nearly 350 names for consideration, which was whittled down to seven, then the three finalists including Meadowlark, Rocking Horse and Veterans.

The goal of the public's input on the new school was to pick a name synonymous with North Dakota and the community. The Meadowlark of course is the state bird of North Dakota and five others across the country. It is the second most popular state bird in the U.S, behind only the Northern Cardinal.
