One dead in apartment fire in South Fargo

(Fargo, ND) -- One person has died in a fire at a South Fargo apartment complex.

The Fargo Fire Department tells WDAY Radio that crews responded to a report of a blaze in an apartment near the Dr. James Carlson Library off 32nd Avenue South at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crews arrived to find one unit on fire on the second level. Residents in the building were evacuated and crews extinguished the fire within ten minutes.

"During the course of extinguishing the fire, a deceased person was found in the unit," said City of Fargo Public Information Officer Katie Ettish in a statement released to WDAY Radio. "There are no other injuries in this incident, and The Fargo Police Department is investing the circumstances surrounding this fire."

The identity of the victim has not been revealed yet until next of kin is notified. Fargo Fire and Police were assisted by Sanford ambulance at the scene.

The investigation into the blaze does continue, and damage estimates were not readily available.
