FBI officials to meet with Grand Forks City Council to discuss Fufeng Group's corn processing plant

(Grand Forks, ND) -- Grand Forks City Administrator Todd Feland is giving an update on the Fu-Feng Group's planned Corn processing plant.

"Now that the petition process has passed, we are back into all the various due diligence and there are twenty plus things that we need to get over various hurdles and we are working through all those, wether it's water or roads, or odor, planning and zoning there are various things that we need to get accomplished," said Feland.

Feland said City leaders are meeting with the FBI Wednesday to help understand and attempt to quell concerns about the ties to the business and China. He does say even if all hurdles are cleared, it could still be more than a year before work begins.

Some residents in the city have raised concerns over alleged ties between the chairman of the Fufeng Group and the Chinese Communist Party. Mayor Brandon Bochenski and other members of the city council point to increased tax revenues and jobs they say the project will bring to the city.
